Becky B Koop, essayist, storyteller, aspiring novelist and creativity enthusiast.
- Gland Slam Champion, 2018 Dayton Grand Slam Story Slam
- Winner, 2016 Erma Bombeck Writing Competition, Local Human Interest, for her essay Revealing Ink. Her essay on helicoptering her own insecurities during Erma Workshops, Whim to Revelation, appears at HumorWriter.org, and her winning essay, Revealing Ink, appears in print at the University of Dayton Magazine.
In her second decade of recovery since discovering a tendency spin like a whirling dervish, Becky still finds the occasional need to curb the urge. Writing as BeckyB, she explores the middle ground between over helping and under helping. Sharing her own stories, as well as experiences of readers who choose to remain anonymous, BeckyB explores the boundaries in each situation, offers confessions of overstep, empathy for motivation, and absolution for those willing to admit their own helicopter hovering urges.
Becky adapted a version of the AA 12-step program for helicopter addicts (‘copter parents and others). “I admit that I sometimes feel powerless over my urge to help my children, my in-law children, my grandchildren, my parents, and my friends.” Join BeckyB in recovery.
